About Me

I am a Midwesterner living in Seattle. I am repped by Kaylee Davis of Dee Mura and write science fiction for the most part. You can also follow me on twitter @ConorPDempsey or instagram @cdempie.

Want to know more about me? Well, how about perusing this nice Faqs section?

Is Conor P. Dempsey a pseudonym for something else? Also, are you Canadian?
No and no.

Why do you use your middle initial for your pen name? Is that pretentious? It is kind of pretentious, isn’t it?
Whoa, slow down there. I use my middle initial because the guy who owned Conordempsey.com wouldn’t sell it to me. So, I decided to use my middle initial P, which stands for Patrick. And yes, I suppose if I wanted to, I could go by Patrick Dempsey and would have pizzas delivered to my house quicker than normal.

What is your writing style like?
I would hesitate to draw comparisons to other more superior authors, but I guess when all is said and done, I feel like my writing is heavily influenced by Ray Bradbury, Douglas Adams and Michael Crichton.

Is there a chance I won’t like your book?
I sure hope not, but it’s entirely possible. I spent a lot of time on it though and I hope you enjoy it. But do not despair if you don’t like it, part of my dream of becoming a writer includes instances of being slandered anonymously on Amazon. Really, all that I ask from you if you don’t like my book is that if we ever meet in real life, you don’t throw my book or your Kindle at my head (Be warned. I may keep Kindles thrown at me and sell them for spare parts).

Are you working on another book?
Yes. As commissioned, I am currently ghostwriting your autobiography.

My autobiography?
Yes.

How is that possible?
I don’t know, but it’s happening. Don’t worry, I am being very complimentary. I left out that part where you shut down that orphanage.

Uh, thanks. But really, what will your next book be about?
Time travel … or a shark, or possibly a time traveling shark.

Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games or Twilight?
In descending order. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, then Hunger Games. Sparkling vampires isn’t quite my thing, but to each their own.

What are your five favorite books?
Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (my favorite book of all time), Hitchitcker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams (the funniest book of all time),  Martin Eden by Jack London (the book that made me want to be a writer), Redwall by Brian Jacques (my favorite book as a kid) and one of those books that John Steinbeck wrote.

    Hi Conor,

My name is Chris and my girlfriend is Cristi Burrill of the Burrill family, who I believe you know well. She pointed me at your book and I am absolutely enjoying it! So far it reminds me of Arthur C. Clarke mixed with a last-man-on-earth episode of the Twilight Zone.

My question: is the Moirae based on the ship from the 2000 scifi film Supernova starring Lou Diamond Phillips? The ship is briefly visible at 0:55 of the trailer, and the movie is on HBOGo right now. However, it’s terrible.

Just curious! Can’t wait to see what happens next.

    Hey Chris,

It’s nice to hear that you know the Burrill clan. I do know them well. They are great people.

I saw Supernova many years ago, but don’t have a great recollection of it. I certainly don’t remember James Spader or Lou Diamond Phillips being in it. I will have to go back and watch it on HBOGo to brush up.

Either way, I don’t think the ship in Supernova directly influenced the Moirae, but the brief glimpses I can see of it in the trailer, it certainly looks eerily similar to what I pictured for some parts of the Moirae. So maybe, even though it’s been at least a decade since I’ve seen that movie, it did unintentionally become an influence. Never thought I’d hear myself say that, but I’m sure the myriad of not so great sci-fi movies I have seen over the years have influenced me, even if I want to pretend otherwise. That’s the way it goes sometimes, we are sponges for both the good and bad whether we like it or not.

Having said all this, I still really like watching bad sci-fi movies, so I will happily rewatch Supernova to further investigate the ship.
